Ski-Doo SnowXRacing (PS2) Quick Review
Well, the snow has just finished melting for me, but there may be more on the way, so fire up those snowmobile's and let's go racing!
A simple racing game, but with a twist : on snow! You'll carve your way through windy sections up and down mountain sides, through narrow gaps and over jumps that, if you don't land them properly, will leave you doing snow angels. You'll race all over the world in a number of different tournaments on a wide variety of snowmobiles that can be customized visually. So is it worth picking up?
What's Good?
- Race The World. The game offers various types of tracks in all sorts of locations. You'll zip around the mountains of Russia, the streets of New York City, and just about everything in between. Some tracks are tight and windy, needing more technical prowess to master the turns, while others are more open with long and slow sloping turns, packed with ramps and bumps all over the place allowing you to focus on speed and show boating.
- Visual Customizations. It may not be very in depth, but you can mess around with how your snowmobile's look, to the paint schemes, the colors within those schemes, and even decal placing all around the body. The main pull in the game is a career in which you create your own custom rider, so it's fitting that you can customize your vehicle as well
What's Bad?
- Limited Gameplay. This for me was by far the biggest let down, and one that didn't fully make sense. Once again, much like the last value review with Alpine Skiing, the game offers no fun, tricks-only freestyle mode. The part that doesn't make sense is, in this game, there are tricks to learn and perform. You're already hitting "fantasy" areas by having a snow-cross track ripping through the streets of NYC, but toss in the detail that snowmobile trick tournaments are a big part of Winter X-Games, and it's seriously puzzling why something like that would be left out of this game.
Is it Worth it?
It is, but it isn't at the same time. The game as a whole really isn't, there's not much to do other than single races and a career and it ends up feeling stale quick. While there are a good number of tracks, they're all fairly simple and fun in the moment, but don't leave any lasting impressions. However, whether it's loose or in box, you can easily find this title for a few dollars (currently trending around $3) So in terms of getting your value from it, you definitely will. Ski-Doo SnowXRacing is fun enough for it's price, but it will most likely end up as a title you won't want to keep around.
