Cat Quest [PC]
They always tell you that when you're on the internet, nobody has to know you're really a cat. Well, no such luck in Cat Quest, because everybody is a cat! Dive into the land of Felingard as you must chase down the evil white cat Drakoth to rescue your kid(cat?)napped sister.
All of Felingard is explorable in a beautiful 2D overworld, where your combat takes place in real time. You can visit towns to meet people, shop for items, and take on quests, explore dungeons to slash your enemies and gain special loot, all while amassing your own arsenal that you can tweak to fit your playstyle.
As Cat Quest begins, you wash up on a shore after your sister is taken by Drakoth, where a strange mark appears on your head. At the nearest village, you learn you are what's called a Dragonblood, possessing an ancient power that will give you the ability to slay dragons. Which is good because that's what Drakoth has been summoning to prey on all of Felingard.
While your main quest always remains as finding your sister, the game breaks it up into stepping you along the way to reaching your full Dragonblood potential. Initially you start your adventure with a simple sword, and within minutes you pick up your first magic spell. From there, how you want to play is completely up to you. Outfit pieces can be found and purchased all over the world, so you can strap on some mage robes and equip a staff, giving your magic spells an extra boost, or throw on some armor and swing an axe to get up close and personal with everyone in your way.
Whether you use spells, attack directly, or use a combination, the combat in this game is so fluid and a lot of fun. Spells will deal slightly more damage and leave lingering effects, but will deplete your mana bar. However, the mana refills as you deal physical damage, so you can spam spells and then rush in for a quick flurry of attacks, roll away before you get attacked yourself and then rinse and repeat as needed.
For me personally, as amazing as the combat is in this game, and as beautiful as the world of Felingard is, Cat Quest is filled with some of the best humor I've come across in a game in a while. Just about every inch of this game is filled to the brim with cat puns, whether its people exclaiming "Oh my godcat!", getting quests from the Catpital, taking cat-naps to heal and quicksave, or any of the fur-raising, claw-slashing references made to combat it is everywhere. There's also a good amount of fourth-wall breaks in this game that are done very subtly, but if you catch them you're in for a good laugh.
Cat Quest is such an incredible game, and it's impossible to find anything bad about it. It's available on all current gen consoles, but the PC version is currently on sale on Steam for the Autumn Sales Event, making this game even more worth it's value. And if you're worried about it being too tasking for your computer, it isn't. I have an older laptop that I use and Cat Quest runs purrfectly on it, so there's absolutely no worry. Whatever you do, don't miss out on this one.
